Electronic warfare is now part of Australia's war machine. The Government is spending $3.7 billion on Twelve Boeing “Growler” Super Hornet electronic attack jets. They carry a variety of electronic jamming systems as well as missiles designed to inflict maximum damage on an enemy’s radar and communications systems - to limit their capacity to respond to an attack.The US, UK, Russia, China and North Korea are reported to be working on non-explosive electro magnetic devices which can be inserted into artilliary shells.

The Shire participated in a webinar set up by the Victorian National Parks Association on behalf of a handful of individuals calling themselves Save Westernport Woodlands.The purpose of the webinar was to promote claims that the Shire’s proposed planning overlay was needed to protect the woodland. Sand Strategy protects environment and allows resource extraction

  Comments by Ken Henry, Chair of the Australian Climate and Biodiversity Foundation, about Australia's environmental protection laws failing to stop the degradation of our natural environment really hit home. Speaking at the National Press Club in Canberra, he argued that the failure held back economic growth. The need for a better approach to planning and environmental issues has been apparent for some time. The community in Bass Coast Shire recognised this in the early 1990’s when plans were revealed for major sand extraction operations in the district. The community was adamant that a landscape-scale approach to planning should be introduced to limit cumulative impacts rather than the existing policy which only allowed each planning application to be considered in isolation.
