Most Covid19 patients recover

The curent COVID19 pandemic is causing panic around the world but it is not the first pandemic to hit humans – nor the dealiest.

The Spanish flu pandemic of 1918, was the deadliest in history, infecting about 500 million people worldwide and killing an estimated 50 million. The 1918 flu was first seen in Europe, the United States and parts of Asia before spreading everywhere.

COVID-19 is an infectious disease caused by a coronavirus it has been recorded as killing 920,000 people.

Most people infected with the COVID-19 virus experience mild to moderate respiratory illness and recover without requiring special treatment. Older people, and those with underlying medical problems like cardiovascular disease, diabetes, chronic respiratory disease, and cancer are more likely to develop serious illness.

The best way to prevent and slow down transmission is to be well informed about the virus and how it spreads. Protect yourself and others from infection by washing hands or using an alcohol based rub frequently and not touching your face.

The COVID-19 virus spreads primarily through droplets of saliva or discharge from the nose when an infected person coughs or sneezes, so it’s important to practice respiratory etiquette (for example, by coughing into a flexed elbow) and wear a mask when close to people..

No specific vaccines or treatments for COVID-19 are currently available but there are clinical trials evaluating potential treatments. The World Health Organisation will provide updated information as soon as clinical findings are available.
