Australian Government squandering taxpayers money

The Australian Government's fixation with doing anything the US Government wants will likely add to pressure on the Australian economy at a time when this country's global financial rating is under scrutiny. It's unlikely that out AAA credit rating will last much longer because of fiscal irresponsibility. Put simply, our government is spending money it doesn't have – and politicians don't seem to care! Just one example is the $24 billion commitment to buy 72 F35 joint strike fighters from the US. The planes, built by Lockheed Martin, are already obsolete in the high-tech world of warfare because the company refused to implement technology developed in the UK. Britain's Hawker Siddeley developed a system called 'vectored thrust' during a program which resulted in production of the Harrier jump jet. That vectored thrust system is now an essential component of the Russian Sukhoi SU 37 fighter which is in service in Malaysia and India. The SU 37 is far more manoevereable than the F35 which will probably go down as the most expensive white elephant in history.

Bass Coast Councillors should be personally liable for their mistaken decision

  Bass Coast Shire councillors should be held personally liable for any costs resulting from their decision to reject an application by Heidelberg Materials to widen Stanley Road, Grantville, It seem likely that ratepayers will face a huge bill to defend Councillors’ decision at VCAT. The road widening has long been a requirement of the planning permit previously issued by the Shire and was approved by Shire planning staff as well as DEECA. Rather than make ratepayers foot the bill, councillors who refused the planning application should be personally liable. All councillors other than Jan Thompson, who had the sense to vote for the application should pay every cent.
