The stupidity of war

People throughout the world are letting the panic surrounding the COVID19 virus and our politicians send us all into a tailspin from which we may never recover. What is clear, is that the longer we keep ourselves locked up, the less likely economies are to recover. In this scenario it seems utter stupidity to talk of war (Cold or otherwise). With a belligerent Donald Trump in Washington, it will need cool heads in Beijing and Moscow to keep the world from rushing headlong into catastrophe. Pentagon Generals are rather like Lemmings.One of thwe only alternatices will be a currency war, with the US slashing the value of its dollar to manipulate the market. The sad facts are that US strategists may see war as the only way out of their economic malaise and they may urge Trump to push the button. It’s the last thing the world needs now with already shattered economies struggling to service their populations. But there is a no shortage of stupidity amongst our politicians.

Bass Coast Councillors should be personally liable for their mistaken decision

  Bass Coast Shire councillors should be held personally liable for any costs resulting from their decision to reject an application by Heidelberg Materials to widen Stanley Road, Grantville, It seem likely that ratepayers will face a huge bill to defend Councillors’ decision at VCAT. The road widening has long been a requirement of the planning permit previously issued by the Shire and was approved by Shire planning staff as well as DEECA. Rather than make ratepayers foot the bill, councillors who refused the planning application should be personally liable. All councillors other than Jan Thompson, who had the sense to vote for the application should pay every cent.
